Video transcript:
Greetings! Music is an important part of our Christian faith. In the year 1900, the great British Biblical expositor, Rev. J. Idrisyn Jones, made this statement:

Rev. Jones expressed his views on the important influence of music: “It is impossible to exaggerate the ministry of music. It exists in the whole creation because of its power and aptitude. It is assigned to Jehovah as one of His moods in relation to Israel: “The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save: He will rejoice over thee with joy: He will rest in His love: He will joy over thee with singing (Zeph. 3:17). The Redeemer is also represented as singing, as if He were the great Choir-Master of the Church of the firstborn: “I will declare Thy name unto My brethren, in the midst of the Church will I sing praise unto Thee (Heb. 2:12). Angels sing, “To Thee both cherubim and seraphim continually do cry.” The Church in its march through the wilderness sings, “And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads” (Isa. 35:10); while the white-robed saints are to learn a new song in that glorious home beyond.” (Rev. 5:9; 14:3)

Rev. Jones continued, “It is well that music still remains in this fallen earth. Harmony pervades all nature. Sir Isaac Newton maintained that the planets of our solar system become melodious as they strike the all-surrounding ether. Thunder and winds, and seas and forests supply tones for the choruses of the inanimate world… But man is the greatest singer upon earth; and if some cannot sing, yet all men are fond of listening, except here and there the misanthrope, described by Shakespeare:”

“The man that hath no music in himself,

Nor is moved with concord of sweet concords,

Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.”

“We have written these things that we might be reminded that we have in music a powerful auxiliary in the propagation of our great truth. Let us sing more. Israel has been renowned for her love and use of music in all her history, from the day the ‘loud timbrel’ broke the silence of ‘Egypt’s dark sea’.”
So ended the remarks by the Rev. Jones so long ago.

We have available for you a compact disc of ten songs written and performed by Pastor Jerry Hensley. The CD is titled, “When The Last Trumpet Sounds.” The song titles include: “I’ll never be the same,” “When the last Trumpet sounds,” “All who believe,” “The Mighty Sons of Joseph,” “Before He ever reached the hill,” “I heard it through the wind,” Patiently waiting,” “The last prayer,” “All of my life,” and “I keep falling in love.”

We also offer a music score for those of you who read and play music. This was composed by the late Eleanor Russell, author and musician, and entitled, “God Bless Your Israel.” The words are well written, and it begins, “God, bless your Israel, and from this day, with mercy lead us in your mighty way. We come to you in deep humility, in our loved Israel from sea to sea.”

We hope that you will avail yourself of the music we have to offer, and let’s be singing!
